Almost every student plants something and watches it grow in the primary grades. Why not take that activity a step further and demonstrate the benefits of recycling in the garden? Students will learn skills like measurement, drawing conclusions and making comparisons. They will have an understanding of how nutrients are recycled on earth and possibly teach their parents the importance of this concept at home in their own gardens. This activity can be a starting point for many activities such as classroom composting, school composting or science fair projects. Look into lesson plans related to kitchen worms to start your own classroom compost bin.
